General information


George Duboeuf Bourgogne is a wine from Bourgogne,region of France ,Bourgogne (also named Burgundy) is a region in the eastern part of France with a hilly landscape producing red, white and sparkling wines. The weather conditions are unpredictable between years, inducing noticable differences between vintages.
Burgundy wines are terroir-oriented: the area of origin is very important to qualify the wine because of the many different type of soils existing in the region. In Burgundy it's not unusual to see two little parcel of land only separated by a wall stone producing two totally different wines.
The most famous wines produced in Burgundy are red wines made from Pinot noir and white wines made from Chardonnay. Other varietals are also used in very low quantity such as white Aligote and red Gamay.

In every Bourgogne appellation there is some locality with a different slope, soil or weather called "climat". There are 1436 climat across the vineyards of Bourgogne and the entire area presents a special pyramidal classification :
- 22 Regional and District appellations which can be made from grapes from all arround Burgundy (Bourgogne AOP, Bourgogne Aligote, Coteaux Bourguignons,...), or in a large Burgundy area (Macon, Chablis...) representing 54% of the total production
- 53 Communal appellations, labeled with the name of the village it comes from, counting for almost 34% of the total production (Meursault, Volnay, Mercurey...) which can be followed by the name of the vineyard itself.
- Premier Cru, coming from a single vineyard classified as a premier cru, labeled with the name of the village followed by the name of the vineyard (Meursault Charmes Premier cru...), representing 10% of the total production.
- Grand Cru, coming from a vineyard classified as a grand cru, labeled only with the name of the vineyard (Clos Vougeot, Romanee-Conti, Clos de la Roche...), representing 2% of the production.

George Duboeuf Bourgogne is located in Bourgogne's sub-region of Bourgogne AOP ,Bourgogne is the generic, catch-all appellation title for the Burgundy wine region in eastern France ('Bourgogne' is the French name for Burgundy).Burgundy has a complex and comprehensive appellation system; counting Premier Cru and Grand Cru titles, the region has more than than 700 appellation titles for its wines. Thus Bourgogne wines often come from a vineyard (or, several distinct vineyards) without their own district-specific, village-specific or even vineyard-specific appellation title.

    Pinot Noir is a red grape variety famous for beeing the raw material of the greatest and most expensive red wines in the world (Burgundy wines) and for the best Champagne wines. Pinot noir grapes are grown all around the world, mostly in the cooler wine regions. Other regions than Champagne and Burgundy have gained a reputation for their work with Pinot noir, including California vineyards, the Walker Bay wine region of South Africa, Tasmania, Yarra Valley in Australia and wine regions of New Zealand. Whimsical, it is a very hard variety to grow: it suffers from heat, from humidity and is very sensitive to rot and illness which require diligent canopy management. The thin-skins and low levels of phenolic compounds lend Pinot to produce mostly lightly colored, medium bodied low tannin wines. When young, wines made from Pinot noir tend to have red fruit aromas of cherries, raspberries and strawberries. As the wines age, Pinots have the potential to develop vegetal and spicy aromas that contribute to the complexity of the wine.


Georges Duboeuf (born 1933 in Saone-et-Loire) is the founder of Les Vins Georges Duboeuf, one of the largest and best-known wine merchants in France. The company is known especially for its popularization and production of Beaujolais wines, leading to Duboeuf's nicknames of le roi du Beaujolais (the king of Beaujolais) or sometimes pape du Beaujolais (Pope of Beaujolais).
