General information

Lamadoro Primitivo Puglia IGT is a wine from Puglia, region of Italy ,Puglia, the heel of the Italian boot, is a prolific wine producing region that has often surpassed in volume Sicily and Veneto in the past. Puglia can be roughly separated into two viticultural sectors by an imaginary line from Brindisi to Tarente. At the North of this line, the ground is hilly and the climate is temperate, even in some fresh heights on the plateau of Murge. Dry wines of this area have a moderate strength with an impressive fruit, good acidity and ample bouquet. South of the Brindisi - Taranto line is the Salento, a pretty flat peninsula that extends between the Adriatic and Ionian seas, up to the most eastern point of Italy. Even if the weather is warm it’s not torrid thanks to ocean currents and winds that blow across the Adriatic from the Balkans. As traditional markets for heavy and strong wines have fallen sharply, local producers are putting more and more emphasis on top-quality wines. Some now offer good or excellent red wines, white and dry, well-balanced rosé and sweet wines all made from a variety of grapes, both local and foreign. The grape variety Primitivo di Manduria, one of the oldest of Salento, is the family of Zinfandel from California. Even if he was used to make wines blends, a new wave of producers showed that Primitivo might have an undeniable class in a style that bears comparison with its American counterparts.

  • Primitivo(100%)
Primitivo is a variety of black-skinned wine grape. The Primitivo variety is traditionally grown in Apulia, a coastal region known as the "heel" of Italy. It is named after "Primativus" (meaning earliest maturity) in Latin. In 1990s, together with Negroamaro, Primitivo suffered from Vine Pull Scheme so that it declined sharply in production, from 17,000 ha in 1990 to 8000 ha in 2000. Thanks to the predigious amount of fortune, the decline of planting halted. Originated in Gioia del Colle, Primitivo is used to produce DOC wines. In late 1990s, serious selection, as well as modern equipment and oenology contribute to the popularity of Primitivo. The charming wines are of high quality in reasonable price. The huge success of IGT Primitivo wines helps to broaden planting areas, secure better prices and enjoy higher reputation.

These wines are made by Filippo Baccalaro and Valentino Sciotti who are responsible for some of the very famous wine projects in Italy, such as Vesevo estate in Campania named after the famed volcano near which it is located. And as with all the wines made by Valentino‘s teams across southern Italy, the Lamadoro wines are clean, bright, modern expressions of the best of Puglia. While Puglia is a southern and hot region in the part of the Italian peninsula, the vineyards are close to the sea providing a cooling influence and the grapes are handpicked. Temperature-controlled fermentation ensures that the wine retain all of its fruit character..prov

Purple red, intense aroma, with notes of ripe red fruits. Good structure, soft and balanced, easy to drink.
